This is the classic working cowboy set of leather split reins. With a wide variety of options, you can pick the reins that best fit your needs. 

If you prefer to have your reins be a consistent thickness throughout the rein, select the "regular harness" option. If you prefer more of a natural cut choose our "extra heavy" option, and the ends of your reins will be thicker. 

We make our reins with American tanned, Hermann Oak Old World harness leather. Old World harness leather has a long reputation with cowboy professionals. As this leather ages, it gets darker and feels better in the hand. Each rein is cut from the hide, rubbed with saddle soap, Neatsfoot oil, and saddle soap again. This gives it a heavy, pliable feel like it’s already been broke-in.

We recommend you measure a set of reins in your tack room so that you know what size will feel best to you and to your horse.

Why leave the weight in the ends?

With weighted ends, your reins will naturally stay lower to the ground. "Extra Heavy" means that they’re cut from a natural heavy-weight steer. Without having been skived at the tannery, this rein is naturally thicker towards the neck of the cow. We've seen this thickness reach up to 22 oz while the rest of the reign is closer to 14-15 oz.
